First up was Geraldine, and as she teed up her ball, the confidence was still there, but gone was the cheeky little smile and they were no laughing or fooling around. Next up was John, cool and calm, ready and able, he even chatted to the members as he teed up his ball. Presidents weekend at Cruit Island 29th June 2010 Well, it certainly was one to remember, Fun in the scramble Friday evening, Great scoring Saturday and Sunday morning, Windy and rainy for our play off, and delicious buffet and presentation Sunday night. Vincent Bonner set the pace on Saturday with his best ever round of "60" just 4 over par to hold the lead from our 2 distance travellers, Michael Sharkey and Columba Bonner who were joint 2nd on "64". Sunday morning John Elsie Ward joined the 3 with another "64" in tough windy conditions. Weather deteriorated as the evening went on and conditions were very difficult. The other 20 qualifiers as the finished returned some very impressive scores. Dan Sweeney held clubhouse lead after a very impressive 1 over Final 9 holes until the very consistent Johndy Boyle took lead with 1 shot better. The big man from Dungloe,Hugh Gillespie managed a great round but only to split the 2 leaders, Johndy and Dan. It was all down to the final group, the weather seemed to have taken its toll, Vincent, Michael, and Columba had fallen by the cruel elements. However John Elsie was still there and managed to roll in his last tricky putt to take Presidents Prize by smallest of margins. Yes, it was excellent Sunday by John and a very hard fought victory. Very well done John!! Congratulations too to Carmel Bonner who was in a different league in the ladies section. Cruit Island Golf News 19th April 2010 Our busy weekend started in Portsalon Golf Club on Saturday when they hosted this years Captains Day. Team Captain John Bonner and his Cruit team headed off on a pleasent morning for golf. Club prizes for Cruit went to Vincent Bonner(35) Dermot Devenney(33) Dan Sweeney(25gross) and John Gillespie(33). Cruits best score went to Chris mc Gonagle who shot a fantastic 39pts going round a windy Portsalon in 1 over par. Excellent round that included a birdie at the 10th followed by an eagle at 11th. There still some slots left in our 100 club draw so get your name in as soon as possible for our first draw end of April. Cruit Island Ladies. 14th April 2010 Its with great trepidation that I put together the notes for this week following our Lady Captains Outing to Portsalon. So many things happened but few can be recorded. The sun shone from early morning as the bus meandered round the Rosses to collect the avid golfers. Leaving Dungloe at 11am all in high spirits and some with spirits of another kind, we arrived to a beautiful array of goodies for the morning tea. Draw done, it was off round the course. With some very competitive matches, we were all set for a good day's fun and that is exactly what we had. It was one of the ceathrar múinteoirí that took the coveted prize, our stalwart Sheila Doherty who has proved time and again that she is a complete all-rounder, any course any day, she is able to produce the goods. Getting over her early morning jet-lag, second place went to Sylvia Mc Bride and Vice Captain Geraldine Stafford claimed third. Nines went to the the ever humble Celine Markey and Eileen Bannon. No doubt Eileen will be joining us more often after all the wonderful prizes she got. We were all delighted to celebrate a special birthday with Geraldine Doherty who was 40 on the day and 50 the following day. Our many many thanks to Lady Captain liz for a truly wonderful day and here's to more of the same - oh yesss. The day following the outing we played Bonner & O Donnell competition, with our new choir mistress Celine leading the pack. The glorious sunshine did little for some of the hangovers however, still on fire from the day before Sheila Doherty claimed top slot with a fantastic score of 39pts, Celine Markey's remarkable 38pts did enough to secure second place. Our thanks to Bonner & O Donnell for their sponsorship and continued support. Good luck to all the ladies representing the Club this weekend in the Donegal Shield in Portnoo. 100 Club spaces still available on board in Clubhouse. Welcome to our new website 12th-April-2010 Welcome to the new Cruit Island Golf Club website.
